Powerpoint 2007 cannot load the add ons

After upgrading from Office 2003 to 2007 I get the dreaded message that seems
to be manditory for upgraders. I have read reams of advice from experts but
none seem to tell me what .ppa files I am expected to see with 2007? After a
search for .ppa I have got rid of an obvious ancient file but still get the
error message. Can someone tell me what .ppa files come with PP 2007 or is it
safe to delete them all?
Thanks

I would be a little reluctant to delete any of the Add-Ins that came with
PowerPoint 2007. What is your exact error message? If you click on the
Office button, PowerPoint Options, Add-Ins you will be able to see which
Add-Ins you have installed in your PowerPoint

Hi Michael
The exact message is the "PowerPoint couldn't load the add in". I have read
elsewhere that the offending add in has been named but unfortunately not with
me. I have done what you said as to identifying the add ins that I have with
my PP and I had some but I had already deleted them all so now I do not know
which ones I had! All I have left now are some DLL files. If I do a search on
my PC for .ppa files then I get the following

masterBar c:\program files\RnRPPToolsV2\masterbar.ppa
Prod2.ppa C:\program files\microsoft Producer 2\shared
RNR Optimiser C;|program files\RnR PPtools V2\RnR_optimiser.ppa
RNR Protect same as above protect.ppa
RNR Starter Set smae starter set.ppa
aware_ppt.ppa
C:\recover\recyclers\S-1-5-21-3526177115-2694183382-112263430-1003
If I look in the registry then the only thing in any of the normal folders
you mention elsewhere is in the Local Key and that is ab default; autoload;
ab Path;

I hope this info means something to you as at my level it means little.

Thanks for you help.
Sorry I have posted my question 3 times but when I posted it I got the
message that it was unable to load the question at this time try again so i
did 3 times!

Charlie;

Did you delete your Add-Ins in PowerPoint or did you delete them some other
way? You might want to try a and run Mivrosoft Office Diagnostics under
Offoce Button, PowerPoint Options, Resources.

I deleted my add ins within the PowerPoint and they are still on the computer
somewhere as shown by the search.
I ran the diagnostics and it gave me a clean bill of health
throughout........ mores the pity, it would have been nice for it to find
something.
Any more ideas?
Thanks

So what your saying is there are no checkmarks beside any of the add-ins
when you click on the Office Button, PowerPoint Options, Add-Ins.

Well I have reloaded the ones Steve suggested and they opened somewhere but
when i interrogate the add ins in PP there are none there still. Perhaps I
need to reboot to activate them or perhaps they have opened somewhere where
they are not associated with PP. I just let them open where they will as i
thought they will know more about it that I do. Needless to say i still get
the error message at the opening of PP. I have had enough for today i will
play again tomorrow with any new suggestions you can come up with.

Thanks again for your help.

Steve I have been "interrogating" the add ins with the main button and then
PowerPoint Options but on your suggestion I did click on the Add Ins tab on
the ribbon and there are none there either. How do I make sure that the
downloads of the Protect, Starter set and Optimiser .exe files find their
correct home and the rest of the PP program.
I think I have got a duff 2007 disc as I also get a continual error message
when Outlook opens telling me that it did not shut down correctly last time
and it want to open in Safe mode. I was happy with 2003 but someone wanted to
buy me a birthday present and at my request bought 2007 and if it wasn't for
that I would revert to 2003. Shall I try to reload the whole thing or will I
just get the same messages? When I have got rid of all of the error messages
and it is up and working then it is great!
Thanks for you help.

Further to my last reply I have now browsed and migrated the opening of the
Add On .exe files to the start up folder in Office in Program files and now I
have the 3 add ins showing on the ribbon tab and also on the options button
but still get the orignal message.

Sorry Steve. You have to remember that you are dealing with a grey haired
pensioner who is talking in a language that only he understands. Let me try
to elucidate my position as it stands.
I still get the error message that Power Point cannot load the add ins. I
now see the 3 add ins that you recommended I loaded when I click on the add
ins button on the ribbon. What I was trying to tell you that you could not
understand is that I am using XP and just running the .exe files did not put
them in the Power point program so I did it manually in Program Files. Maybe
not what you would have recommended but I seems to have worked as I now had
the add ins showing on the Add Ins tab and also using the main button and
Options.
Ideas from here please to get rid of the error message or as you suggested
in your first mail, perhaps I will never use the Add Ins and have no use for
them and might be better off getting rid of them all together? I am happy to
do this if it gets rid of the error message. In fact now that I know that I
can reload them perhaps if I got rid of all of the .ppa files on my machine I
could add them again if the error message has gone?

Hi Steve
I have found the files in MS Office start up in Program Files. I notice that
I have 2 MS Office folders. Office 11 and Office 12. The add on files are in
Office 11. Perhaps I only need one Office folder. Prehaps the 11 folder is
left over from 2003? Any way they are in the start up folder of 11 and they
do start up in PP 2007. Sorry I am not much help. Your patience is of great
magnitude. Keep asking me relevant questinos and we will nibble our way
there.
Thanks

Let me try to address your questions. The actual file names are
RnR_Optimizer.PPA
RnR_Protect.ppa
RnR_Starterset.ppa
They are in Program files\MS Office11\startup
As I say I have an Office 12 as well but without these files. Hope we are
moving in the right direction?

Hi back atcha.

Which files? What are the actual file names?

Computers are very picky, very specific. If we want to track down computer problems, we
need to be the same.

Could be, but I wouldn't go deleting anything.
Any way they are in the start up folder of 11 and they

It doesn't sound like these are any of the PPTools add-ins. They never install to these
particular folders on their own.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be difficult (though I seem to manage it w/o even trying ...
otohh, my wife DOES tell me that I'm awfully trying, so maybe there's soemthing to it) ...

but did what manually in Program Files? Give us the step-by-step description of what you
did, with what files in what order.

Remember that you can see what you're up to w/o even having to look over your shoulder
(which'd be painful anyhow). But we're far away and squinting through this little wire
that leads into the back of your computer. I can't see anything but cat fur, and that's
probably at my end.

Keep in mind that the messages you're seeing might have nothing to do with our add-ins.
You mentioned having a couple of others installed as well.

Let's concentrate on getting ours out of the picture (and you're correct, you can reinstall
them later if you decide you need them). Start with the description of what you've done so
far and we'll go from there.

OK what I did after downloading the .exe files for the add ons you suggested
to my desktop, first I just opened them thinking they would find their way to
where they wanted to be but they did not open in PP or were not obvious when
I clicked on the add ons tab or on the main button and then options. So I now
opened them but browsed to the start up folder in PP thinking that they would
open there and that is what they did as shown by their presence in the add
ons tab and options off of the main button. Hope this is what info you need
if not then please ask. Thank you for your patience and help.

Charlie3110

yes that is correct as for how I installed them in the startup folder. As for
for changes to security ........ no did not see that at all. Is it too late
to intiate this? Can I start again somehow with the installation of these
files? If so how? In the original installation the files were obviously in
their correct postion with their correct loading and the only reason I am
reloading is because in my ignorance I thought if I get rid of the add ins
then i won't get a message saying that they won't load.

How best can i reslove this and is it worth it as it just an annoying error
message that has bearing of the operation of PP?

Thanks once again

No, they're not the add-ins themselves... they're programs that you run to INSTALL the
add-ins.
So I now
opened them but browsed to the start up folder in PP thinking that they would
open there and that is what they did as shown by their presence in the add
ons tab and options off of the main button.

So you ran the EXEs by doubleclicking them, and when asked where to install them, put
them in the Startup folder, correct?

When you run them, they all tell you that you need to make some changes to your
security settings before continuing. Did you do this?

Hope this is what info you need
if not then please ask. Thank you for your patience and help.

Yes the help files work OK for each of the adds in I loaded so that seems to
be OK. Right now I will concentrate on the 3rd Party add ins and if I can
resolve the issue with them then i will have to put up with it.
Thanks for your patience and help Steve
