Powerpoint File Conversion

My previous version was Powerpoint 95 with a converter that allowed me to
view, modify, and save Powerpoint 97-2003 presentations. These files saved as
Powerpoint 97-2003 according to the file header, but will not open in
Powerpoint 2007. Since Powerpoint files saved from the Powerpoint 97-2007
program will open in PP 2007, I conclude that the files are PP 95 despite the
header. How can I get PP 2007 to open PP 95 files, or alternatively, how can
I convert the PP 95 files to a file that PP 2007 can open? I am currently
running PP 2007 on Vista.

I don't believe you can open PPT 95 files in 2007. You'll probably need to find
someone with a copy of an earlier version (97 through 2003) to open the files
and resave them in 97-2003 format for you.

There's a macro here that they can use to save time:

Batch re-save presentations; update older presentations to newer PowerPoint
version
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00740.htm

It'll open and resave all of the PPT file in a folder for you.

Steve;
I was afraid you'd say that, but I appreciate the information and the quick
reply. Thanks also for the pointer to the Visual Basic code; I'll use that to
do the conversions as soon as I find someone with a 97-2003 version.
Thanks again

I have the horrid Office 2007 which has been the bane of my existence bc of
the stupid new file names and now nobody can open anything unless they have
2007 also!

Usually the converter works just fine for word docs but I have made a
powerpoint that I need to send to work where everyone is on office 2003...

the problem is when I convert the file to 97-2003 --it makes the file
bigger, it changed the file from 2MB to 137MB, and now it's too big to
email...

can anyone tell me how to get around this? I thought about emailing the
viewer add-on...it's just that at the office people aren't allowed to
download anyhting onto the computers.

Is there another way? why would it make the file bigger? how can it be
compressed? -- and no, the zip doesn't help (it's still too big at 134MB)

I would appreciate any help, as I am three days late with this powerpoint.

thanks

This won't solve your powerpoint problem, but might help with this
presentation. Many companies have an FTP site. Talk to your IT people to find
out how to use it, and you can submit your presentation. Most current
browsers support ftp transfers. Good luck.
