Powerpoint 2003 SP1 will not play video clip

I have been trying to insert an .avi file into a presentation. However when I
run my show a black rectangle appears where the video clip was supposed to be.

Video clip plays fine in Windows Media player vers 9 and 10. I have also
tried saving video clip using media player with shorter filename and close to
where presentation is saved.

Windows XP machine is fully updated with latest SPs and Direct X as is
Office 2003.

Thanks given in advance.

Luc,

thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I am not even at the stage of using a
projector. The video clip does not play in Powerpoint on the primary computer.

I know about this problem. Some of my Indeo 5.11
AVIs do not work anymore and show only
a black box, sound can be heard.

Afaik Microsoft does not longer provide support
for this Codec (nevertheless some of the Videos
do work).
Try to convert your videos to wmv-format with
the free Windows Media Encoder. It will solve
your problems.

Black box sounds like a codec issue to me. (White box is often a path-length
thing.)

I'd just grab PFCMedia and be done with it. There's a fully functioning
2-week trial on the site. http://www.pfcmedia.com If you deal with video
often, it would be a good thing to have permanently in your arsenal.
