powerpoint 2003 crashes when i open it

When Powerpoint opens I get the following message: "Microsoft Office
PowerPoint has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for
the inconvenience." It then closes after I've reported to Microsoft, reopens
and crashes again ad infitum. What's the reason and how do I fix?
