Possible memory leak

On windows XP prof serv 2 .
Managed to do the updates after some problems with the connection. After
rebooting programs keep crashing. Like IE7, Firefox, YahooMessanger. No
error, just the window closes. I guess its something related with
explorer.exe because looks like having highly unusual CPU consumption. Did a
scan with Norton Antivirus and Spyware Doctor but it did not find anything.
After some further investigation it looks like any aplication it's writing
on the disk till it is full.
Any suggestions?

The primary suspect for any problem of any kind on a computer with any
Norton/Symantec product installed is that Norton/Symantect product. So
your first step should be to ditch Norton Antivirus in favor of
something that is properly designed and known to work. Alternative
products would include Kaspersky, Bit Defender, eTrust, Panda, Trend
Micro, AVG, and Avast. The latter two have free versions.

You could also try one or two of the following free online scanners to
see if something has gotten past your protection:
Bit Defender http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html
Trend Micro http://housecall.trendmicro.com
Kaspersky Online Scanner http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Panda ActiveScan http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan
WindowSecurity.com TrojanScan http://windowssecurity.com/trojanscan
Webroot http://www.webroot.com/

Good luck

I did a scan using kaspersky and it didn't find anything also. Do you have
any other sugestion.
One thing that I noticed is that I can do a full scan in Safe Mode while
in Normal Mode it crashes after some time.

Have you looked in Event Viewer (right-click on My Computer and select
Manage) for any error records that correspond (date and time) to these
crashes? These may provide a clue as to what is going on.

Good luck

I did not do that. I ended up uninstalling everything that was norton and
after that things started to work out. Thanks for the clue with the norton.
