Portable Drive No Longer Allowed to share on my 2 Home PCs

Howdy,

I network two home PCs, via a wireless Linksys router and QWest modem. I
have established the home network on Windows XP (SP2) just fine and I have
access from either computer to all the drives and folders that I have allowed
to share (in the properties, I selected the sharing option for each drive and
folder) on each computer. However, there is one Iomega HD portable H drive
on one on my machines that will not come up for opening under my Network
places from the other PC. It says that permission is not authorized by the
administrator or the drive is not available (or something of that nature; the
message I get if the other PC is not turned on for example). It used to work
just fine and open up for view and usage with all the folders on the drive.
What has happened and how can I fix it? I have verified that sharing is
selected for this drive, so the other PC should be able to see it out of its
Network Places. Thanks in advance!

How about the complete and exact message? The "access denied" error is so
variant, that you need to examine the whole thing.

Can you see any other shares from this computer?

Hi Chuck,

Here is the error condition I get:

You might not have permission to use this network resource.
Not enough server storage is available to process this command.

One more piece of the puzzle. When this H drive stopped being accessable
was after I had disconnected it from that PC to use somewhere else, and then
re-connected it back again (USB interface). I do see all the other shared
drives and folders on that PC, just this drive is no longer accessable. So I
am wondering if my firewall and AV are now just blocking that drive, as it is
being perceived as new to the system again. I do have Norton IS 2006, with
integrated Norton AV (2006). I disabled the IS last night to see if this
would fix the problem (on both machines), and it didn't, but I also did not
disable the AV at the same time. I will try that. If this is the problem,
what is the suggestion to fix it? Thanks again!

THAT one is well known. You fix the computer that you're trying to connect to.
