What do you recommend to stop popups. Microsoft has alot
of them such as 'about:blank'. I have tried free ones
off the web, still getting popups. XP home edition, on
broadband, soon switching to dial up. Thanks.
There are several ways to stop pop ups. The most important thing to do
is keep your computer free of spyware by removing malware with tools
like Spybot Searcy & Destroy (
www.security.kolla.de) and Ad-aware
(
www.lavasoftusa.com). These tools are free, so run them both at least
weekly, being sure to update them first before running.
You can also use the Google toolbar, which has a popup stopper built
into it, or an alternate browser like Mozilla which has fine-grained
popup and cookie handling. You can get Mozilla from
www.mozilla.org.
The full Mozilla package includes the browser, email, chat, html
composer but you can get just the browser (Firefox) or email
(Thunderbird). XP Service Pack 2 will add the popup blocking capability
to Internet Explorer.
