Pop-up blocker won't let me update my antivirus software?

I have had IE6/SP2's pop-up blocker turned off ever since it was introduced.
Recently, NO pop-up will open, even from trusted sites. This includes the
site at which my antivirus updates it's software. I looked through FAQs, and
couldn't find anything telling me how I might uninstall IE in order to
reinstall it (Add/Remove Programs doesn't have an Internet Explorer listing).

If anyone has any ideas how I can get past this, please let me know.

Thank you.

Do you have a third-party pop-up blocker installed? Many toolbars (e.g.,
Google) include one, Brad.

You use an anti-virus program that requires YOU to visit a web site to
update its protection manually?

To reply to both at once:

I have no third party pop-up blockers. I don't really see the need for them.

And my AV software downloads critical updates and smaller downloads like
virus definitions and the like automatically. But to get updates on the
actual software, it sends you to the site, in which it's download manager is
initialized. Much like clicking on Windows Update in the Start menu.

What PA Bear asked is if you have any toolbars installed? Many include
popup blocking, like Google's and Yahoo's toolbars. Some anti-virus
suites have popup blockers (I recall McAfee's suite which included
anti-virus, firewall, and privacy manager having the option somewhere to
block popups).

Have you tried holding down the Ctrl key when clicking on a URL link to
the website (and holding down the Ctrl key until the page completes
painting)?

The only one I have is the Yahoo Messenger button thing. Any way to disable
it, or do I have to uninstall Messenger itself? I have McAfee, but only
VirusScan and Firewall Plus, so it wouldn't be that. As for holding ctrl, I
tried, but it didn't work.

Use msconfig.exe to disable all startup programs, reboot, and see if the
same behavior occurs. If not then something you are loading on Windows
startup is causing the popup blocking.
