Pop-up blocker with IE 6 SP2

I'm using a PC with XP Home SP2. My web browser is IE 6 SP2, and I
have the pop-up blocker turned on, filter level set at medium.

Overall, this pop-up blocker does a good job, but I've noticed that
recently pop-up ads seems to be sneaking thru more steadily. I suppose the
companies that create these annoying ads are constantly looking for ways to
circumvent pop-up blockers, which are used by a majority of Internet users.

Anyway, do you think Microsoft will eventually update its pop-up
blocker so that it does a better job at catching these newer, more sneaky
ads? Microsoft has introduced very few changes to IE the past several
years, so I'm skeptical.

I can't answer your question about MS's plans, but I have found the popup
blocker to be pretty effective. Have you checked for adware, etc. that may
be causing the intrusions?

when it comes to security ,microsoft is usually slow
behind everyone. get the google toolbar at
toolbar.google.com its got a good popup blocker or get a
good firewall that will also block popups and ad's.

You can also set the filter level to "high" thats what I did and it works
very good. ya just have to temp. allow when the browser opens up a page in a
seperate window.

I decided to turn off IE's pop-up blocker and install the Google
Toolbar again. It has a lot of nice features, updates itself automatically
and perhaps will do a better job at blocking pop-ups. Time will tell. I
doubt I have any spyware on my system. I use Spybot S&D 1.3.1TX and
Ad-Aware SE 1.05 at least 3 times a week and always check for updates. Plus
I have a firewall and a virus scanner running.

I have the pop-up blockers from IE6SP2, Google Toolbar, and AdAware SE all
enabled. They coexist with no issues and now I only get popups from TV
Guide, those obnoxious ads that follow your scrolls. I was getting the same
type from Weather.com, but no longer. I also have a modified HOSTS file
(http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm), SpywareBlaster that modifies
the registry, and Adwatch to help with spyware/adware.

Do these companies really think I'll buy their products when they intrude on
my privacy in this manner? If anything I'd be more inclined to boycott
them.
