Hello -

The event log on my W2K Pro system reports the following
error at every boot:

"The PMEMNT.SYS service failed to start due to the
following error:
The system cannot find the file specified."

Despite this error message, a file named pmemnt.sys does
in fact reside in the C:\winnt\system32\drivers directory.

My questions today:
What is the purpose and function of the PMEMNT.SYS service?
What could be wrong with it on the system?
How can it be fixed?

Thanks!

Another option is to set the Reg_Dword value of;
"Start"=dword:00000004
found at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PMEMNT

(note: dword:00000004 = disabled)

That dosen't look like any of the Microsoft Services that I'm familar with.
It could be a service that an Application installed. If you click on Start,
then Run, type in Services.msc and then click OK. You can look at the
installed services there, and if you right click and then click properties
you can see general information on the service including the path. Check the
dependencies tab which shows services that must be running for that service
to start. You can also try and start the service with the start button. If
this is a service that was installed by a program and you cannot get it to
start, you might consider uninstalling the program and reinstalling it.
