Problem Service Control Manager

Rolf Erbe

At every system start of Windows 2000 Professional (Build 2195 SP4)
I get the following message in the event log:

Description:
The Service "PMEMNT.SYS" was not started due to following error:
The System could not find the specified path.

Can anybody help to determine the reason for this ?
PMEMNT.SYS is in fact where it should be i.e.
C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\PMEMNT.SYS.
I would be grateful for any kind of help.
