I have a Western Digital MyBook. It functioned before a repair installation
of Windows XP and functions in other computers. However, when I try to
connect it to the USB now after the repair installation, the Plug and Play
hardware installation cannot find the generic driver for the drive and it
fails to install. There is no driver provided by Western Digital. The tech
there sid they use the generic driver provided by Windows.
I tried manually identifying the driver in the New Hardware Wizard, , but no
drivers were listed.
I've tried this to no avail:

I've also reinstalled the USB root controllers according to the advanced
troubleshooting here:

How do I get the WinXP P&P to find the driver?
