Playing midi files

I have an electronic keyboard (piano) that accepts midi
files on floppy disks, which are wearing out. I want to
submit the midi files to the piano directly from the
harddrive on my laptop computer via a midi cable hookup.
Do I need to buy software (e.g., cakewalk), or will XP do
this without the additional software?

Media Player will play MIDI files but you won't have any real control over
how they play nor will you be able to edit them. So, it's best if you get a
software sequencer that will allow you full flexibility. You may be able to
find some free ones using a Google search. I use Cakewalk Sonar, but that's
somewhat expensive because it's very flexible and also does audio recording
and syncing, etc.
