[PL] 2004 VOTE DISCUSSION: MULTIMEDIA

http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/PL2004MULTIMEDIA.htm

Please review the capabilities of all the programs on this list before
posting an objection to the exclusion of a program. The list is
separated into subcategories to make it easier to read. Many
subcategories overlap to a greater or lesser degree.

Many of you have greater knowledge of the programs on this page than I
do. Comments are welcome.

HarddiskOGG (Audio: Encoders-Decoders) 3 (out)

Since GSpot is a tool to discover what codec is required to play an AVI file
and *not* an encoder/decoder, shouldn't it get its own category? A handy
little tool, IMO.

Thanks for all your hard work, Susan!

Imagine the unfortunate incident (hypothetical) that WinAmp became
shareware. I voted for WinAmp, but my second choice would be Cool
Player, and I would vote for Cool Player instead. It's a tight race
after WinAmp...

Repeat... this is hypothetical... no basis in reality.

Exactly my position. 'Tis why I nominated it, after all.

(Did I mention yet that I *HATE* missing the vote? Grrrr...)
Thanks for all your hard work, Susan!

Big time. };O)

One of the most interesting freeware projects of the past couple of
years, outside of open-source/Linux-stemmed programs, just flew right
past our group. A pity.

You're very welcome. :) Flattery will get you somewhere. I will add
GSpot (Audio: Encoders-Decoders) 11.

Now would one of you please tell me what to use for a subcategory name. . .

It's another of those pesky "niche" utilities. It allows you to
check which codecs a particular file (audio or video) needs. Perhaps
"codec checker?"

Excellent program (have used it for eons). Free. Great support and
constantly updated. Great on the ears too:). Best aside from QCD player
IMHO...

VirtualDub (Editor: Audio-Video) 22 (won)

If room for how-to links on the PL page, then may I suggest
<http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/join-split-avi.htm>

Above page also explains why and when an older version (1.3c) may be
preferred in some instances (for ASF files). Current version is
v1.5.10 (18160)- see <http://www.virtualdub.org/>. (d/l link for older
version:

All the best,
Bjorn Simonsen
