Rabbits? Oh wait, they eat cords. What animal eats battery packs?!

About the part eaten, my wording was poor: it wasn't the battery part in
itself...it was the cabling that's part of the adapter. Unfortunately,
not the end plug-in cord that's just the $1 replaceable part...but the
other, the main unit cable.

To eat the battery part itself, I'd say puppy dogs should have no problem...
those guys can make chairs legless, and couches into confetti in a single
afternoon.

The couple I was housesitting for, they have numerous species making up
their household (house-zoo), but I suspect the responsible party for this
crime had to be someone from the rodent (rodentia, L., to chew) family.
I had my notebook very near their play area, and someone must have sorta
vacumn-sucked my cable over, to get at its neat taste sensations. :<

My massive dice & slice might hold out for a while, it looks like. I see
no smoke, yet...

WinPatrol (2 Process Monitor)
WinPatrol with Scotty the Windows Watch Dog will sniff out Worms, Adware,
Spyware, Cookies, Trojan horses and other virus type, malicious, nasty
programs that may attack your computer. WinPatrol puts you back in control of
your computer with no need for constant updates. WinPatrol's goal is to help
you better understand what programs are running on your computer, and alert
you to any new programs added without your permission. Scotty lets you
confirm any new programs set up to run on your computer
</quote>

I haven't used this program, but wouldn't it belong with anti-spyware\
anti-malware progs, as found within a different cat than this one. ?

Just a quick comment: Winpatrol is a startup monitor and configuration
tool. Some spyware loads at startup, via the startup folder the
various startup keys in the registry - and windows services. As
Winpatrol monitors these startup locations and prompts you when
anything is added, it can help prevent launching spyware this way. But
although very helpful, it does in no way prevent spyware loading via
other methods, say spyware that only runs when the "mother
application" is launched etc.

Further, since Winpatrol monitors the most common Windows startup
locations, it is useful for more than just spyware prevention. Say you
install an application that insists on adding something to your
startup without asking your permission first, something other than
spyware, say a tray icon/launcher or whatever. Winpatrol will detect
it - warn you, and offer to remove it (deny the addition).

A cross ref to Winpatrol under spyware tools would be nice, but it
belongs under the general startup category (Process Monitor:
Start-Up).

Another suggestion would be to move the
"Process Monitor: Start-Up"
<http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/PL2004SYSTEMUTILITIES.htm#ProcessMonitor:Start-Up>
category from the system utilities page to the Security page.

Another and perhaps better suggestion is to move the utilities listed
under the "Process Monitor: Start-Up" category (currently Winpatrol
and Startup Monitor) and under the "Start-Up Tweaker" category
<http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/PL2004SYSTEMUTILITIES.htm#Start-UpTweaker>
(currently Startup control Panel) to a new combined sub-category:

"Startup monitor and config"

....perhaps on the Security page.

No matter if placed on the System utilities page or the Security page,
I think the various "startup" tools belongs together; either they
offer tweak/configure features (as Startup Control Panel) or
monitoring features (as Startup Monitor) or both features (as
Winpatrol).

All the best,
Bjorn Simonsen

I agree.

Hi, Bjorn, good to see you back (even if you said it's only for a brief
interlude).

metoo!

Btw, I found another arguable stray, over off in File Tools: Wassociate.
It's not some little explorer context-menu addon. Instead, it is a frontend
for that whole huge group of registry keys, related to file associations.
I'd want registry frontends on the System Tools page. And I'd want file
backup progs on the File Tools page. Next year, Jason, we'll have to get
out of bed earlier in the morning. To guide our sysutils together to the
same lodgings.

To quote a famous US Governor: I'll be back.

Could not agree more. btw: I nominated Wassociate so I am familiar
with it. Anyway - Thanks Karen.

We can make *some* adjustments this year after the vote discussion and
program discussion.

I *would* like to *minimize* changes => move only the worst misfits.
I don't think I have the strength for a complete overhaul. ;)

Very understandable. Your work much appreciated. Maybe I can get back
with few (conceptual) suggestion sometime next year...(leaving town
soon for a longer vacation :).
