Hi,
Ok, your still being a bit vague about your Nero, is it version 6 or 7, have
you updated the version you have..?
http://www.nero.com/eng/Downloads.htmlMake sure you
Make sure you don't have both versions installed.. Also, you might try
disabling the XP inbuilt CD Wiz by unchecking the box on the recording tab,
for "enable CD recording on this drive", or as well type "services.msc" in
the *run* box, scroll down and *disable* the "IMAPI CD burning service" or
set it to *manual*.. I still use Nero 5.5 and have disabled this service
with no ill effects..
R6FW108.EXE
I assume the above firmware update is what you tried, and you say it failed
to find the drive, right..?
Is the drive seen in the BIOS, device manager, disk management, and in the
my computer window..?
Please indicate the above areas that the drive is seen in all, none, only
one, which one(s)..?
In device manager see any errors..?
If the drive is seen, you might try checking the Upper & Lower filters for
the optical drives..?
The easiest way to check without going into the registry, would be to go to
Device
Manager, open DVD/CD-ROM drives, right click one of your optical drives,
select properties from the menu, Details tab, you should see "Device
Instance Id" and a drop down arrow (v), click it, move the mouse pointer
down the list to highlight Device Upper filters and click it, do the same
for the Device Lower filters, Class Upper & Lower filters as well to see and
take note of their contents.. Also, there should be just 4 MS signed drivers
in the Drivers tab, driver details button, driver files details window, may
want to check, your call..
MS signed drivers: cdrom.sys, imapi.sys, redbook.sys, storprop.dll
See any other drivers in there..?

If you need to clear the U&L filters,
might use the above link, your call..?
If you decide to clear the filters you will need to reinstall/repair your
Nero 6 or 7 and it's updates..
Cheers
