DVD-RW doesn't work

Suddenly my Pioneer DVR 108 writer does not recognize DVD+RW and CD-RW discs
anymore.(prompt: this disk is unerasable). This happens in Nero, Power
producer and Studio. Installed a extern Liteon CD writer, same result.
Writing on DVD+R and CD-R discs works fine on both writers. The files on the
RW discs are 100% readable. But I cannot erase them. In another PC they can
be erased. I tried several discs. So I think there is something wrong with
Windows XP Home, and not the writers.
Who can help me?

A few weeks ago I installed a newer version of Deamon Tools. I de-installed
this and now I can use RW disc's. So I have to find out what's happening but
now I know where I have to look.
Thank you for spending your time for this strange fault.

I think that is just a coincidence and your drive has probably stopped
working. Replace it with another.

You are right but I am a pessimist and expect that it will only work for a
short time and then start playing up again. He will then be very confused
and spend 3 more days trying to work out what the problem was before finaly
replacing the drive. :)

But the DVD+R and CD-R continued to work, only the DVD+RW and CD-RW
played up. So, software interference makes perfect sense.

I can say that it still works as before the Deamon Tools update. So I think
too it is a software interference. In the coming days I will install it again
to find out wat is going on.

My computer (Dell 4600) can't find my two optical drives. I get an error
message that says " Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.
The driver may be corrupted or missing, (Code 39). The drives are: a NEC
DVD+RW ND 1100A and a Liteon DVD-ROM LTD163. Please help as I can't get
either one of these drives to work. Thanks, Rick

You don't mention what OS you have. If it's XP, you might try Doug
Knox's fix here http://tinyurl.com/2meq
I think that this applet (may just be a script file) simply makes sure
that the Registry entries for the optical drives are correct. If the
problem really is caused by corrupt drivers, it will not help, but it
won't hurt anything. The drives are different, but they're almost
surely using the built-in Windows driver for optical drives. Just
because the message says the drivers or missing or corrupt doesn't
literally mean that they are. If Doug Knox's fix doesn't do it for
you, Microsoft has further explanations and even a downloadable
"Guided Help" for the problem here:
