pinouts for a test cable?

This may be a little off topic here, but decided to give it a shout
anyway...I don't have access to other non-Microsoft newsgroups here at work.

Trying to test the configuration of a Netopia 4255 router connecting to a
Linksys BEFSX41 router using the WAN ports on each.
We want to test the configuration of a VPN tunnel between the two devices
before delploying.

Anyone know the cabeling pin outs to make a cable connection between the two
devices?

I can tell you that standard CAT 5 Ethernet straight through, and CAT 5
Ethernet cross-over don't work.
Also tried a Verizon T1 crossover cable (used to connect the Verizon Shark
box to a router), that didn't work either.

I believe it is a matter of getting pins 1,2,3 & 6 (Ethernet) on the Linksys
end to see the appropriate connection on pins 1,2,4 & 5 (T1) on the Netopia
end.

No, it would be a matter of simulating a telephone line running a T1 or a
DSL. WAN connections (phone lines) are Serial Connections. That's why
real routers like Cisco 2500's, 2600's, 1700's, etc, have Ethernet ports on
one side for the LAN and have Serial Ports on the other side for the WAN
with a CSU/DSU between them and the phone line.

Assuming there even is a way,...you would have to contact Lynksys and
Netopia (both) to find out how their products would expect it to be
done,...and cross your fingers that they don't each use different methods.
