ping does not work but net view \\computername does

I am having trouble with my home network using XP Home. When I ping my own IP
address I get a time out, but when I use net view is is successful.
The help file tells me that "If the net view command succeeds then the
computername is being resolved to the wrong IP address."
HELP!!! How do I fix this.

Yes, you do have good connection. The problem could be the firewall blocks the ping.
