Ping does not work

I have created peer to peer with 3 xp computers as hub a central device.

I set hosname, IP address, subnet mask as well as default gateway address.
I created a workgroup.

I can ping the machines' own ip address but not other ip address. I can ping
loopback too.

any idea why is it?

Check your firewalls - they may be blocking ICMP echo (ping response).
