Thanks. No, I don't have the image open anywhere else. It's usually just a
small banner image included in an email from someone else. If I then
forward this email back to myself, I get the below warning. If I then say
yes, when the email is received it arrives with the standard warning "Some
pictures have been blocked to help prevent the sender from identifying your
computer. Click here to download pictures." I click here and it downloads
the picture that a minute ago it said it couldn't find.

I can't figure out why if Windows Mail can't find the picture, how does it
manage to send it anyway?

Hi Gary,

I have the same problem. Did the two unckecks in the Security tab under
tools, options but the red x remains. I also put the sender's address in the
safe list.

Is this for an incoming email? In that case, the assumption is that the
sender forgot to include the images. What is the file size of the message?
Any message less than 10K file size probably has no image included.
Also look at the raw source code (Ctrl+F3): do you see a big mass of
random characters?

If I'm right, you could see this by looking at the size of the mail itself.
Or am I wrong?

Yes, as I said, if the message size is below 10K, it isn't likely
to include a picture.

Fairly frequently, when I forward an email that contains an image, I get
this warning:

"One or more of the pictures in this message could not be found. When you
send this message the pictures will not be included. Are you sure you want
to send this message?"

Any idea why this is happening? Thanks.

Thomas,

To access the CORRECT TOOLS menu, you have to NOT be in any message. You
have to be in the main screen showing just the list of messages without
opening any one. Then go to the TOOLS menu, At the bottom you should see
the OPTIONS. Select that and go to SECURITY tab. There you will find the
two entries they are telling you to uncheck, one about attachments and the
other about images. That should do it.

I have the same issue and had all the suggested fixes but nothing worked,
but I found a work around. If you right click on the picture in the source
email and save it to your desktop (or anywhere else) , then you create a NEW
email instead of forwarding. You can copy and paste the text from the
original email, then insert the picture you saved to your desktop. This is a
lot more work but it will get the job done.

Ok I went to tools and I do not have any of that stuff checked. I have my
settengis set to open the pictures. It is just with some people who foward me
e mails with pictures that I get this message.

What "stuff"? My response (below) says nothing about making
sure that settings under Tools are unchecked.
Kindly respond to the advice I offered.

I have vista... I follow the instructions on this an d now i can't see the
pictures when I copy paste on the page. I cant send as attachment because
people that dont have Vista then cant open the attachemnt any suggestions?

Windows Mail does not allow pasting of pictures.

Alternatively, while on the message compose screen, click Insert, Picture.
(Only works for HTML messages.)

Or you can upgrade to Windows Live Mail, which does allow pasting
of pictures: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Hi Gary,

I was able to go to the main WinMail options tab, and I did un-check both
boxes mentioned, but when I try to send a message, the images are Still
showing up blank with a small red x. I have re-confirmed that I've changed
the security settings, but still, no luck - and now, when I try to select
text with images to copy/paste, the images don't even appear at all (just a
blank box with a red x)... any clue as to what I've done wrong?

Which antivirus are you running? Norton Antivirus can be especially
bad about interfering with email attachments.
What happens when you send an email with a picture to yourself?
