Photo stiching... Suggestions?

I want to scan a large map; I have to do it in several pieces and then I want
to put it back together (to relate the stages of an European trip)... I
believe the solution is 'stitching' the pieces after scanning them... Any
suggestions on what to product/package to use?

MS Digital Image Suite 2006 has an option called
Panoramic Stitching that should work for you. It
auto-sorts the images and works vertically as well
as horizontally.

Panorama Factory 3.4 may be worth a look also:

Regardless of the app you use...be sure to overlap
each image 30% to 50% for the best match.

Try Microsoft Code Name Acrylic (free download). Easy to use and the
results are astonishing.

John,

I will check out the sites you suggested. I am trying to stitch two scanned
images together with no luck!

I have both halves open and go to Tools, then choose Panoramic Stitching,
then click on Next. I keep getting the message "No detectable are of overlap
between any of the images. See help." So, I have searched Help and even read
through the DIS manual. I am sure that there is 1/3 overlap available in my
images!

Like I said, I will check out those sites you mentioned!

Are you trying to recombine a panorama or
are these two individual pictures?

Apparently the two images are not well enough
defined for the software to detect the similarities.

If these are scans...what's the reason for two?
Was the original larger than your scanner glass?

John,

Yes, the images are larger than my scanner. I'm scanning 12x12 scrapbook
pages. I'll scan one side, then flip it and scan the other side - there is
plenty of overlap. I've been careful to make sure of that.

I tried to stitch together a photo that I purposely cropped to see if I
could stitch it back together & it didn't work either. But I will keep trying
- I am tenacious! I am also tired so that is probaby affecting my thinking
and patience.

Would it be possible for you to post the
images somewhere that I could download
and experiment with them?

If the files are large...you could upload to
the following site:

"SendSpace"
http://www.sendspace.com/

You may use the following address:
pianopartsAThotmailDOTcom
(change the obvious)

Not sure what the original question is, I just subbed to this ng and it
seems like some of the first posts in a thread are missing. The top one
starts with RE:

I got software that photo stictches with my Canon printer (and I have a
Canon camera, Powershot G6 that has a setting to take photos in sequence to
later be stiched into a pan, horizontal, vertical or 4 together in a square
picture)

It's called Canon utilities Zoom Browser EX 5.0

Not sure if it's available anywhere besides bundled with something from
Canon.

Before this, and now if I can something bigger than the scanner, I would
just use PhotoShop (or Paint Shop Pro that I started with). Make a new,
bigger image, and copy/paste (putting it on close zoom in to line up) the
pieces together. You might have to use the rectangle to select before
copying.

or, take one part of the picture and make 'canvas size' a lot bigger so
you can paste the other parts in place and then deselect and crop.

I uploaded the files to the site you suggested.

Photo stitching did work on one page that I scanned! So, at least I know it
can be done.

I will also try pasting the two seperate images onto a 12x12 blank canvas.

Thanks for your help!

I have not received the link for download but
will let you know if I have any success with
the files once I can download them.

Since you are having more success with the
new scan, I suspect my first thought was the
answer...the original files were not well enough
defined for the software to detect the similarities.
