password no longer accepted

I just changed a PC from a domain to a workgroup, and now
when I boot up, it
will not accept the admin password or the password for the
user that was on.

Any idea why??

I can see the PC from another PC withing the workgroup,
but when I try and
select that PC from the other PC I get a message
indicating that there are
no logon servers available to service the logon request

I am hoping to not have to reload windows

You need to enter a "local administrator" account name and password.
When you removed the computer from the domain, the domain accounts [even
administrator] no longer are recognized by the now stand alone machine. See
FAQ as for possible solutions. If you do decide to reinstall W2K, do NOT
format the drive unless you want all your data on that drive/partition to be
erased. --- Steve

Why did this happen? Because you no longer have a domain to log into. If you
don't have the local admin credentials, you can find one of the 'use at your
own risk' password cracking utilities out there - do a google search.

If you still need access to the domain, you'll have to have the domain admin
re-join it to the domain, and someone is going to have to know the local
admin name/pwd. If this is a laptop you use at work but want to also use at
home, note that you don't need to change the computer to belong to the
workgroup - leave it as is, log into the domain with cached credentials, and
connect to the workgroup resources by providing the appropriate credentials.

Something must have changed....this doesn't happen by itself. Try running a
password cracker to reset the administrator password.
Hi, I have a similar problem (laptop user). I was using
my W2K Professional system yesterday with no problems
whatsoever. Then, I had to shut down to go to my office
(no network or domain). When I booted up, I got a system
can't log you on message. Please make sure cap locks are
not on. The kicker? I never even had a password to start
with, because no one uses my system, now, I can't even get
into my own PC! Gateway says to re-format and re-install
the OS. I do not want to do this. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Cyndi
