Password memory mystery

Does anybody know why some passwords are remembered by Windows and others are
not? I have tried everything to tell my system that I want it to remember
log on information at certain sites. Some work, some don't. Example:
Verizon's web site remembers my username and password, but Verizon's text
messaging site refuses to do so. This site refuses, too. Not the end of the
world, but very annoying. Anyone know how to get consistency here? FYI:
Running XP Professional SP2. I have a hardware firewall. Norton Anti-virus.
Spysweeper. Windows Defender.

Some sites are deliberately set up to require that you manually log in.
Others use "cookies" and don't. Setting up IE to delete internet temp files
will usually dump the cookies.
Some have a site unique method that save you username, and requires that a
"live persion" enter a code displayed by the site that is unique for each
login.

So, no there is not a universal method that will work.

What do you mean by "this site" - the (awful) web interface to these
newsgroups? Actually, these are Usenet newsgroups, and if you access them
using a newsreader and the microsoft new server, msnews.microsoft.com, no
password is needed.

XP comes with Outlook Express which can be configured for newsgroup access.
Here is a link with info on how to set that up.

Additionally, MS passport has never been able to remember the password for a
sign in, in spite of the fact that it gives you the option of telling it to
remember the password. It will remember the user name. Why? I don't
know.
