Password / logins - FP2000

Johnny Dee

Hello,

A stupid question to those who know, but to me it's not stupid.

How do you put a password/login to a website? I am using FP2000, can it be
done in FP2000 or do i need to do it through someother method?

Any advice appreciated as always.

Thanks

John.

Do you want to set up a restricted area for users to login to?

Does the remote server have the FP extensions, and are your publishing to it
via FP's http mode?

Does your host allow you to create or have FP subwebs, if Yes to the above?

What OS is your site host under, Windows or Unix/Linux?

Hi,
Yes, I am thinking of having selected customers login to access accounts
details etc..
Yes the server has FP extensions, I believe as I can do Database tables?
Not sure on the subwebs? I am still a beginer to FP and website publishing.
How can I tell if it supports subwebs. even more relevent, what's a
subweb??
The host is a windows based server they told me.

Any where I can go to learn more on this subwebs and login stuff ?

thankyou.

John.

Note: Being able to use databases has nothing to do with having or not
having the FP extensions.

A subweb is a complete and independent web site under a root web.

I'd suggest contacting your webhost.

Thanks Thomas,
Managed to get the subwebs to work, however, can't seem to understand the
Password issues as it seems to let everyone access it eventhough I disabled
the access - I think?

I will try and find out if I am doing it correctly.

Thanks again,

John.

Hi everyone, Thanks for the info. Helped heaps.
Just another quick one though.
When a User accesses the secure page (Subweb) area, how do you go about
asking the user to enter a password. You know the windows that come up
asking for usernames and passwords?
Or should it come up automatically once the Secure Pages are uploaded to the
server?

Thanks Again,

Johnny Dee.

In order to get that type of prompt, the permissions mush be set up on the
server for the folder/subweb.

If use any server-side script to handle access, such as ASP, PHP, etc., you
must create a login page with the required form field and then post to a
page that validates the login info against a flat file or database, etc.

See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;825451
Your host will have to support subwebs and unique permissions under the FP Server Extensions
