I am unable to log into my laptop. I believe my password
was inadvertanly changed.

I was trying to attach my laptop to my home network. In
the course of things, I was asked if I wanted to use a
password. I selected yes, since I have always used a
password when logging this laptop in at the office.

When I restarted, I was prompted for a pw. But my normal
pw did not work. The error message said to make sure the
name and domain were correct.

I have noticed that previous to my tinkering, the domain
of my office appeared in a box below the pw box. that
box no longer exists.

I've tried logging on with no pw, setting up a new user,
and logging in as administrator. No luck.

Should I reinstall Windows2000? Should I upgrade to XP,
since I may have to buy Windows 2000. I don't have the
original disks,

Help!

If your laptop belonged to a domain, and you changed it to workgroup, you've
lost your domain login access and will need to know the local admin
password. Bring the laptop back to the office, grovel in front of the domain
admin and ask him/her to re-add the computer to the domain. This is one of
the reasons why most admins do not add domain users to the local admin
group, btw. You didn't need to change anything - you could've connected to
your home network without changing your domain settings, and still accessed
resources on it. :)
