password for e-mail not saved.

my e-mail password for outlook is not being saved. I have followed the kb
from microsoft on this but it is still not being saved. When I went to the
registry to check on theProtected Storage System Provider subkey it was nooot
in the registry. I expeorted the ket from another pc and imported it into my
computer's registry. I then delted the e-mail profile and recreated it. I
had it save the password. Yet when I opened outlook I was still prompted for
the password. I checked the registry and say that there was no subkey under
the Protected Storage System provider as there should be.

What can I do next? Would I need to reinstall the OS to get this working?

thaks for suggestions

If you have further questions then it would be best to ask the
experts in an Outlook newsgroup. Remember to state the
versions of Outlook you use - there are big differences between
them!

Password for Outlook. Is this:

- The mail profile's password (for the PST file that it opens on
Outlook's startup)?
- The e-mail account's password?

The Protected Storage registry key only applies against the e-mail
account password, not the mail profile password.

If you password enabled your local message store (i.e., the PST file),
why not simply remove that password?

If the problem is not with a password but in selecting which mail
profile to use when Outlook starts, use the Mail applet in Control
Panel, Profiles, to select a mail profile and enable the option to
always use that mail profile (rather than prompt for which one to
use).

Opening Outlook and having it ask for a password makes it sound like
you are opening a password-enabled PST file. However, if Outlook has
already loaded (the mail profile) and you get the password prompt
during the first mail poll then the password specified in the e-mail
account is wrong or not getting saved. Based on your description, I
can't tell which password with which you are having a problem.
