Partition a new XP system disk

B

Bruce

I'm trying to help a friend who just purchased a new XP Pro system. I was
trying to partition the one hard drive so that there's a C: and D: drive.

I started the disk manager but can't seem to find a way to split the
single C: partition into 2 partitions. Is there a way to do this?

TIA

You can only create a new partition if you have "unallocated" space using
XP's "DiskPart" utility. In other words, once you have created a partition,
you cannot go back and create another partition within that partition. Only
a sophisicated third-party program, such as Partition Magic, can accomplish
this once Windows XP is installed.
