page cannot be displayed

I have windows xp pro and norton antivirus 2004. I have installed all available updates. I recently started using internet explorer 6 sp1. Now, every time I try to go to a web page I get "this page cannot be displayed". I click refresh and it goes right to it. Also, I am now having to enter my id and password at least twice every time I try to get my email. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Hi,

Change the DNS Server
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Network Connections.
Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.
Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties.
Select preferred and alternate public servers from the following Open Root
Server Confederation Web site:
http://support.open-rsc.org/servers

Note Select the servers that are closest to you. For example, 199.5.157.128
for the Preferred DNS, and Alternate 204.57.55.100.
Click Use the Following DNS server Addresses.
Type the server addresses, and then click OK.

Hi,

Try this:
Under Internet Explorer / Tools / Options:
1- Cleared temp files and cookies
2- Under the connections tab / LAN settings / Automatically Detect settings
3- Under the Programs tab / Reset Web settings
4- Under the Advanced tab / Restored defaults

Hope it helps.
With Regards,
Asima
