page cannot be displayed error on IE6 and Win XP

I am able to establish a connection to the internet
through DSL and successfully ping external sites (i.e.
yahoo). But, when i start my browser (IE6) i receive the
following error "page cannot be displayed". I cannot
connect to AIM too. I checked my host files and also
reset my TCP/IP settings. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Lo

It seems most probably a DNS problem. You can "ping"
sites etc, so connectivity is good, but name resolution is
failing. Have you checked ur DNS settings on ur modem/nic?

Yeah and it's set to obtain DNS server address
automatically. I'm connected to the net through the
built in PPPoe. Any other suggestions?

Lo again

There are a huge amount of possible reasons for this. I
would need more specific info. Drop a quick line to
(e-mail address removed) and I will email you some Q's to
narrow it down.
