P4C800 gigabit lan 3C940 LOM is S-L-O-W to connect

When I boot my computer into Windows XP I get many error messages that the
system can't find the time server, can't connect to network drives, and
other network related error messages. However, after the system is up for
just a few seconds everything connects and all is well. The system will run
for days without any problems. I have been unable to find any adapter
settings that will improve the time it takes for the connection to be
established. I finally disabled the network adapter in the BIOS and
installed a plain old 3C905B 10/100 network card. All the problems went
away. I realize that this is just some kind of timing problem but it annoys
me that there are so many critical error messages in the event viewer after
each boot. If I can't fix it I will probably just leave the 3C905B in the
system and forget the built-in lan adapter. Anyone else have this? Did you
fix it?

I have a question on the RJ45 jack on the P4C800 Deluxe board. I'm on
a cable modem and hooked right into the board. Sometimes, my
connection just drops out and I have to reboot the whole system to get
it back. Far as I can tell, it's not the modem or the cable company.
Could it be the onboard LAN connection? Is there a setting for it
other than enable/disable? Thanks.

I've had problems with mine as well. See

http://www.abxzone.com/forums/showthread/t-64370.html

I posted to other hardware boards as well. Nobody really
was able to help. I finally just installed a NIC card.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I would be
curious to know what error messages you are seeing in the
event logs.

Thanks. I didnt' think to check the event log, as I'm new to Windows
XP and still learning it, though I've been to the log to see what it
was all about. I'll check the next time it dies on me. I have an
ethernet card I can throw in the mqchine if you say that helps. Also,
do you think switching to a USB connected modem would help? My cable
company has them, so I'm sure I could swap.

Thanks "Me"
That write-up on abxzone described my problem exactly. Looks like a feature.
As far as the logs are concerned, this machine is in a domain, so the error
messages were can't find machine account, can't query for system policy,
kerberos error attempting to log on, can't find domain controller, can't get
time from domain controller, etc.
