P4B won't go into standby automatically under XP Home

Hi,

I upgraded (clean install, really) my Asus P4B from W98 to XP-Home.

I can put the system in standby (Start > Shutdown > Standby) and wake it up
reliably. That part works great.

I set the power management properties to automatically go into standby after
30 minutes. But it never does.

How do I sort this out? I would think it can't be a driver or an application
because I can manually put the system in standby.

Is there something I need to do to enable automatic standby? Some BIOS
setting?

Any insights would be appreciated.

I have the same thing. I figure its some piece of software on the system
that keeps it from going into standby (intentionally, I don't mean it
physically stops it).

I think I figured it out. The BIOS was set up to wake on PCI devices (like
modems 'n stuff) and external modems. I disabled those functions, and the
system seems to go to sleep on it's own OK.

What I don't know (and don't really care about at the moment), is whether
standby was blocked because of the BIOS settings, or because our phone rings
a lot.
