Lately we have this wierd thing happended on one of our client computer.
When he opened the message from this particular sender, it would hang for
about a minute before it can open up and it gave him about another 30 second
to open any others email from this sender and then hang up again and keep
doing that. it would opened up ok if I set it as read in plain text, but he
did not want to read it in plain text, please help. His system is Window Xp
spc2, outlook 2003 spc3.

So does that e-mail have a number of URL links to external content which
includes HUGE images or other content? Does this user have the option
enabled to block external content?

Yes, the email has a URL link. and Yes it has the option enabled to block
external content? I did try to disable the "automatic picture download
option" and it won't work.

If it is just a text URL that the user clicks on, it doesn't affect
download time (anymore than any other text of the same number of
characters would have an affect). If it is a link to an image's source
then the e-mail client is going to wait until the file server delivers
that image to render an HTML-formatted e-mail. Having an linked image
that has to be downloaded would take as much time as if it had been
attached to the e-mail, or longer if the file server was slow, there was
high network traffic, or for some reason yanking files from the source
was slow.

Yet tried disabling the e-mail scanning in the anti-virus program? If
it is with HTML-formatted e-mails that cause the hiccup, what add-ons
are installed in Internet Explorer? Is LinkScanner installed (available
alone or comes included in AVG anti-virus)?

Have you tried starting Outlook in its safe mode ("outlook.exe /safe")
to make sure that some add-on isn't causing the interference?

Yes, you are right. There is an image with showing up as red x on the bottom
of the message right next to the URL link. However, this same messages have
been recived by a few people in our company and they don't have any problem
open this message. So I don't think our antivirus causing this problem. I
already try outlook in safemode, remove all the add on, but it still not
work. I don't known if you know any tool that we can see outlook run in the
background to see what is holding up. Thanks

Hmm, although a bit from out in left field, I'm wondering if this user
has a lookup service enabled to find info on a sender. In the Mail
applet in Control Panel, click on E-Mail Accounts. Select the Directory
option of "View or change" and click Next. Anything listed there other
than the Outlook Address Book?

Hi VanguardLH, Thanks for all your time helping out with all the suggestion.
Here is a new update that I just found out. I let my client try on different
machine and it's ok. And the problem has occured right after he changed to a
new computer which is Dell T3400. Therefore, I think there is application
from Dell that might hang the outlook. I will let you know more right after
I check out his application.

One application specific to Dell that can cause problems is the Cyberlink
Outlookaddin. Look in Add/Remove Programs for it. iTunes can also cause
problems.

Hi Brian, The client's computer did not have the cyberlink OutlookAddin, but
it do have a itune. I uninstall it, but the problem still there. However, I
found out that one of the microsoft services cause this problem, but I am not
sure which services yet. Here is how I found out. I got into System
Configuration Ultility, then choose the selective Startup, then it open the
message ok after restart the system. Then turned on one by one and found out
it happended again when I selected all the Microsoft Services. I will let
you update by next week.

Sorry for this late update, I found out the "Microsoft Workstation service"
is the one which cause these problem, whenever I disabled this services, I
could read the email without any problem. However, I could not connect to
any of my map drive, cause the "workstation" services are required to access
resources on the network and to perform domain authentication. But after I
stop and restart the services couble time including it dependency which is
Remote RPC and net logon services. Finally I get through this problem by the
following setting:
1) Start --> run --> services.msc
2) double click on "workstation" service --> STop --> set to disable--> OK
After I restart the system, this service and its dependencies services are
stop as well. Now I have to restart the services and set it to manual.
3) double click on netlogon --> make sure it start and set to automatic
4) double click on RPC --> set it automatic and start.
Restart the system.

This problem is only around this three services. I come across with alot of
testing(Stop and restart the services), restarting the system, and I know
this take a lot of time and effort. Sometime, I could not change anything in
the "remote RPC locator" service, then I have to start the workstation back
on and redo the whole procedure.

Finally, Thanks for anyone whom have involved in helping me solving this
problem. and good luck to whoever might have the same problem like my.
Million Thanks
