Outlook will not re-start after incorrect shutdown.

When opening outlook I get a message saying "outlook failed to start
correctly last time..." and offers 'safe mode start' option.
Outlook then attempts to start in safe mode but get another message window
saying an error has occured and outlook needs to close - with option to send
error report.
Next I receive a message "outlook failed to start in safe mode, would you
like to start detect & repair" - click yes... "wait whilst windows configures
office pro 2003... gathering information..." (long wait)... new message
"Microsoft Office Pro setup completed successfully"
Click OK - re-open outlook... same scenario starts all over again!
I've un-installed office 2003 and re-installed - no different. Checked for
updates but cannot receive any...

Assuming you are working with a POP3/IMAP account, start by running the
Inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe) against your PST file(s) to rule out
corruption.

After the repair completes and you are still having the same problem, create
a new mail profile via the mail applet in the control panel. Do not copy
your existing mail profile, create a new one and switch to it. If all is
well, then delete the old one.

Cheers Neo.
Created a new profile, but could not import mose recent .pst file folders &
contacts etc. Imported an earlier back up fine. Presume most recent .pst
file was corrupt so I removed it - restarted outlook with original profile,
then when it prompted me for location of a .pst file it was looking for to
open, I directed it to the new .pst file that had been created for new
profile. Old profile now works fine with all mail settings / contacts /
folders etc. intact.
Sorted!

Never import a PST. It's unneeded and loses data. Simply reuse the
existing PST in the new profile by using the Data Files button in the Mail
applet to add the PST and the E-mail Accounts button in the Mail appet to
make the PST the delivery location. ALl this is done before ever starting
Outlook.
