Some days ago my boss' Outlook suddenly wouldn't start
up. After some research I quickly learned that his PST
file had reached the 2 gig limit and that Outlook
therefore refused to launch.
I searched Google and came up with various solutions.
Unfortunately none of them resulted in an acceptable
solutions!
First I tried the MS solution, Microsoft's PST2GB tool
chops of a definable part at the end of the file
resulting in loss of the latest received/sent mails.
Another solution suggested in removing some characters
from the PST file, using a HEX editor and then use
SCANPST to repair the file. That didn't work out either.
ScanPST aborts the operation after scanning the file,
saying that "the operation could not be completed because
the file was either moved, deleted or unavailable.". I
even tried HEX chopping of the first half of the PST, the
last part of the file and rebuild it with ScanPST, but
kept getting the same result.
I'm really lost and any creative solutions or suggestions
are MUCH appreciated ;o) My main priority is the latter e-
mails which are located at the end of the file.
