Outlook Express not working after Office XP installation

R

Richard

Hope someone can help! I just installed Office XP
Professional and now I can't use Outlook Express properly
anymore - ie, I can't open incoming messages (although I
can see them at the bottom of the list) and I can't send
messages. The problem seems to be with the address book,
as I get a message saying "Unable to open the address
Book. The Address Book may not be installed properly."

Please please please can someone help??!!

Thanks.

Provide more information.
Upgrade or clean install? If the latter, from what version and mail support
mode?
What was the source OE was using for its address book?
What is now your default mail program and Contacts manager?

It was an upgrade from Office 2000. (I didn't want to
upgrade OE, it just happened as part of the Office
installation! I've tried uninstalling Outlook but this
hasn't helped.) I had an address book set up which seems
to have become unusable somehow during the installation.
I have tried setting Outlook Express as the default mail
program etc, but as you can probably tell, I feel like I
have stumbled into something that is beyond my
understanding...
Thanks for your time!

Most likely, OE was set to use your Outlook Contacts Folder as its data
source, which was a feature in Outlook 2000 in IMO mode. No current versions
have that feature. If you want to use OE's address book you will need to
export your Outlook Contacts to a CSV file, then import that into OE.
