Outlook express attachments missing?

Running Outlook Express in my InBox many (about half) of the items have the
paperclip symbol but when I click it the window that opens to show the
message does not include the Attach: title nor the area that list
attachments.

A message that I knew really had an attachment, when I opened it it did show
Attach: and the area and worked an one would expect.

Know what is going on?

Thanks

Thanks Steve but it was not checked.
Besides I did get a couple of notes with attachments that also showed the
paperclip and worked as expected.

What kind of attachements are they? I noticed that when I use Outlook Pro and
set background themes some folks' email programs do not display the
background and show them instead as image.jpg attachments which they cannot
open. Also their replies with send these back as attachments but Outlook
doesn't let you see them.

Another thing that can happen is if someone sends you an unknown file type
that your PC does not have the executable defined. Are you running Junk
filters? If so Oexpress may have captured them as "bad" files and blocked
their progress.

A lot of the phishing email has been doing things like this...

I looked at properties of a few notes.

The ones with the paperclip but no attachment contained two copies of the
note.
One in plain teat and one in HTML.

So I sent myself two message, one in plain text and one in HTML.
Sure enough the HTML one shows the paperclip.

I believe researching the meaning of Context-Type and Context-Disposition
would shed some light on what OExpress means by the paperclip. I may do
that later.

Thanks for your reply

Disable AVG's scanning of incoming (and outgoing, for that matter) mail. It
provides no additional protection and even Symantec says it's not necessary:

<paste>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.
