outlook express: attached file deleted

Outlook express 6.o is the program I use.
I received from a person a mail containgin an attached fil in rtf-format.
This file was, against my wish, automatically deleted by the program, for
reasons that I can assume is to prevent me from receiving virus. In the
"tools" menu I find no way to change the way Outlook express treats this kind
of fil so that the fil is accepted.

Hos do I do to prevent the program from destroying en attached rtf-file?

Are you sure the message bar in OE says deleted and not "blocked". OE
security for attachment blocking is found by opening OE and select Tools >
Options > Security and uncheck the second box about attachments that could
potentially be a virus. (OE doesn't base its decision based on a scan. It
only has a preset list of attachment types that are the most problematic.)
