Outlook Express 6 - Mail settings

Heaven knows how this form of spam is created. I have a domain name (say
www.domain.com) and use one email address ([email protected]) and am happy to
receive emails so addressed.

However, my ISP forwards all emails addressed to @domain.com (as I would
expect)

Suddenly I am deluged with thousands of "undeliverable" and "returned"
messages all purportedly emanating from my domain - though they are nothing
to do with me.

Is there any way I can set the Rules in OE6 to delete all messages addressed
to *[email protected] other than those properly addressed to (e-mail address removed) ?

Guess I am not the first person to suffer this - some 700 over past 24 hours

You are now the "victim" of a spammer who is using your domain email
addresses as part of their scheme. This does not mean that those
"spam" emails truly originate from your domain but the spammer is
"impersonating" you, or your domain. This is a major problem and one
that is not easily fixed. My company's domain has been "hit" like
this. There are day/week/month that we get 1000 bogus email bounce
backs. Fortuneately, this usually "clears" up but we can never know
when the next "wave" starts.

You can create a rule for single addresses, but not the entire domain

Highlight a message
Message menu | Create Rule From Message | Check 'Where the From Line
Contains People'. Then in the second options box (under) tick delete from
the server

If the e-mail address changes then click the TOOLS menu | Rules | Message
Rules
Double-click the rule created earlier & then add that e-mail address

Remember you have the option to 'Apply Rule Now', highlight it & click the
APPLY NOW button

I hope this helps

That's right - unfortunately it is the addressee (ie me) that I need to
delete - with the exception of one permitted address! I have improved it
slightly by creating rules that send messages entitled "undeliverable"
"returned" etc to the deleted items folder - but I may be missing something
I want!

Anyone know if there is an Outlook Express Group ?

Singapore,

I know all about forging headers as I have been actively fighting spam for
10 years, but unless the OP can plug into a realtime spam database it isn't
going to cease anyway, is it? So, in this situation asking the OP to post to
the Outlook Express group isn't going to be beneficial for them at all

Singapore,

As I said in a previous reply to you:

Posting to an OE group won't solve the problem, but plugging into a realtime
spam database will

Hi rock

Have you considered malware. Have seen this issue in the past. Check for malware especially some type of smithfraud

Hello,

There may be a way to filter mails such that only mails with the OP's
address in the TO field gets to the inbox, the rest to a special spam folder
or deleted items folder.

However by doing this, if the OP receives legitimate mail that is BCC'ed
to him, message rules could also detect it as spam.

Then again, the OP can just disable the catch-all facility using his
domain's control panel or by e-mailing his hosting company to disable the
feature.

After reading your replies, you are only looking to allow ONE specific email
through? If so, do this:

1) TOOLS, MESSAGE RULES, MAIL.
2) NEW, (BOX#1) Select "Where the TO or CC Line contains people"
3) (BOX#2) Select "Delete it from Server"
4) Select Blue Text in BOX#3 "contains people"
5) Enter your email address, click ADD.
6) Click OPTIONS button on the right.
7) Section #1, select the line that states, "Message does not contain the
people below."
8) Click OK, OK, Set a name for this rule in BOX#4, press OK, OK

NOTE: If you have more than one email address that you want to get mail
from, then add them at the same time (Step#5 above.) If someone sends you
email using the BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) with this setting you WILL NOT get
the email! This rule will effect ALL email address accounts you have setup
in OE. If you want to limit it to one account, you will also need to put a
check in (BOX#1) "Where the email is from the specified account," and tell
it which account to apply this rule to.

Hope that works for you!
