Outlook Express 6 question

Every time I exit Outlook Express it asks if I want to compact
whatever (Messages) and the only choices it gives are yes and cancel
so I hit cancel but every time I exit it it asks the same thing and I
am getting tired of it!!!!

Is there a way to keep it from popping up other then hitting yes??
How and where??

I know someone is going to say hit yes instead of answering the
question. I DO NOT WANT TO HIT YES!!!

unfortunately, outlook
express is under going
obsolescence and

respectfully your issue
may not be worth trying
to resolve at this time.

have you tried its
replacement called
live mail?

perhaps, you might
simply get use to the
new version above
as it will the version
to access the hotmails.

Until you select yes once, it is going to keep it up.
Compacting is the process of removing dead space from the folder files.
OE does that every 99 times you close OE.
It is done to prevent file loss.

The fact that you don't want to hit yes is the problem here. It NEEDS to
be compacted, every so often. (Fear is born out of ignorance, as to what
it is doing; point of fact is that most databases do need to be compacted
periodically).

And it's really unfortunate that it waits that long to do it, too. By then,
if it's never been compacted, it is much, much larger than it needs to be.

I routinely use the Tools, Options, Maintenance, Clean Up Now, Compact,
option in OE every day to help avoid this problem, but that is not as
thorough as using the full compaction for all folders (File, Folder, Compact
All Folders).

Outlook Express has it's own newsgroup:

microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress

This is the fix:

START | RUN | Type 'regedit' & press ENTER

Navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\[CLSID NUMBER HERE]\Software\Microsoft\Outlook
Express\5.0

In the right pane double-click 'Compact Check Count' & set it to 0 (zero)

Exit the registry editor

Since I can't see the original post, I will use one of the not so helpful
replies to help you. There is a registry entry called "Compact Check Count"
here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{UserGUID}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook
Express\5.0
that increments by one every time you close OE and when it hits 100 you get
prompted to compact. Setup a scheduled task or start up item to reset this
entry and you'll never see it again.
