outlook error message

This question was asked and answered previously in the 12/13/2005 to
12/15/2005 timeframe (asked by Donna, answered by Dave.
The question was:

"I just installed Office 2000 on a computer with XP. Although Outlook
Express 6.0 has & continues to be selected as the default email program, I
keep getting an error message below all the time which reads:

'Either there is no default email client or the current mail client cannot
fulfill the message request. Please run Outlook and set it as the default
email client.'

We followed the directions in the answer, and got rid of the offending
outlook file, but still get the same error message. What now?

SinceOutlook Express is already selected as the default email client, is
there a way to prevent Outlook from repeatedly launching this error message"

Login as an administrator and fire OE and Outlook once. Then set the default
in Control Panel-> Internet Options-> tab Programs

Hi robert -
We had already tried this - the default is set to Outlook Express but we
still get the error message. Maybe the following info will be helpful. This
is a new computer - about 1 month, and we're still setting stuff up. It came
with Outlook Express, but not Office, so my wife installed Office 2000,
because we wanted Excell and the publisher stuff. When she did this, it
automatically installed Outlook, which she then uninstalled, and also deleted
outlook files missed by the uninstall. Since then, we've had this message
coming up every time we start up.

And what files were that? Tried a repair/reinstall of Office already? Also
don't forget to apply Office 2000 Service Pack 3 + additional hotfixes.
