Outlook 97: No transport providers

J

Jens

I have a problem in my Outlook 97. When I send an e-mail, I get an e-mail
from "Systemadministrator" that says:

The following is translated from Danish.

--------------
The message wasn't delivered to one or more of the recipients.

Subject: xxxxx
Send: date

Could not deliver to the following recipient(s)

"e-mail adresse" and "date"
There was no transport providers available to deliver to this
recipient.
--------------

What does this mean?

I'm not using an exchange server, but sending to a SMTP-server provided by
my ISP.

Hope you can help me.

Regards
Jens

Do you have the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch for OL97 installed. It
updated the Internet Mail service to support things a bit better.

Jens

No I don't think so. I have installed Office 97 SR1 and SR2. Is it part of
any of the service releases?

I think it was in one of them. Have you tried removing & readding the
service to your profile?

If you already have installed SR1, you need not install the Enhancement
Patch; it's included in Office 97 SR-1!

Well, it can mean that you're out of luck. Most ISPs these days require you
to authenticate to the SMTP server when sending messages. Outlook 97 cannot
do that and, hence, cannot be used to send mail to an SMTP server that
requires such authentication. Ask your ISP if they require authentication
to the SMTP server. If they say yes, choose another mail client that can
authenticate or ask if thet offer a non-authenticating server you can use.
If they do't have such a server. Outlook 98-2003, Outlook Express, Mozilla
Thunderbird, Netscape COmmunicator, Eudora, and others all can authenticate.

Thank you Brian Tillman

I will check that

Thank you all - the problem is solved.

My ISP had changed the SMTP-server procedure. It now requires a login. I
have upgraded my Outlook and now it works.
