Outlook 2003 e mail

Been using Word 2003 as my e mail editor for new messqges and replies for 2+
years (html format). Two days ago Outlook 2003 create New mail message told
me Word 2003 wasn't available. Did Detect and Repair on Word and Outlook and
they both finished successfully. Still get the error.
However, if I open and leave Word 2003 open then I do not get the error in
Outlook 2003 when replying and composing new mail. Would like NOT to have
Word running just to compose or reply in Outlook. What should I try next?
