outlook 2000 cant find address book in windows vista

I recently replaced my old laptop with a new one that has Vista home premium
on it and loaded my Office 2000. I am getting an error in Outlook when ever I
try to make a change or import/export that says "an error occurred while
attempting to open the windows address book, wab dll not found".
I know that in Vista address book is replaced by windows contacts, but is
there any way to get my outlook to work properly without having to upgrade to
Office 2007?

Changing the installation mode of Outlook to Corporate/Workgroup will take
care of that issue. Note that mainstream support for Outlook 2000 stopped
years ago already and that any compatibility issues with Windows Vista will
not be fixed.

You need to transfer/copy your pst file from the old computer to the new one
and then open Outlook and use File, Open Outlook data file to open it. You
don't need to upgrade to 2007, but you really should upgrade Office to at
least the 2003 version, which is still available. It works much better than
2000.

That will not solve the WAB problem - no amount of transferring or opening old .pst files will help. It is a limitation of Outlook 2000 in IMO mode that used to share the OE address book. OE is no longer in Vista so the Address Book sharing .dll does not work nor will it ever work. Outlook 2000 IMO is crippled in Vista. The OP must either change mode to C/W mode or upgrade to 2003/2007.
