out of memory?

G

Guest

I bought a dvd burner at christmas and had extra memory installed as well to
cope with it but lately when I try to burn some discs I get an error message
up saying the PC is out of memory.
Any ideas on how I can clear the memory so this dopesn't happen again?

Hi John,

"Out of memory" errors generally happen when virtual memory is restricted.
This could be because you placed restrictions, or that you have insufficient
drive space for expansion of the pagefile.

How much RAM memory?Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task
Manager and click the Performance Tab. Under Commit
Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

How large is your hard drive and how much free space?

Hope this helps.

Something odd about your figures! The peak is more than the limit!

How much RAM memory?

Are you doing photo editing or running graphics applications?

You may check on pagefile (virtual memory) usage with
Page File Monitor for XP:
http://www.dougknox.com/

Make sure you study the readme.txt file carefully to ensure
you get the utility to work as it should.

This utility demonstrates the overall amount of the pagefile
in use. It does not say which application is using it.

Internal or external DVD burner unit?

What "other" programs are you also running at the same time as a "burn?"

If the DVD drive is internal, make sure that it is not connected on the same
IDE/ATAPI/UltraDMA ribbon cable as the hard drive.
