Other accounts on same Win2K computer cannot see wireless adapter

I installed the main computer directly to the modem. In this 2nd machine,
I'm running on Win2K with latest updates and installed a D-Link DWL-G510
wireless adapter to access Sympatico. I installed the driver using
Administrator account, then the card and I can access the wireless router and
internet no problem. I then created user accounts for family members on this
second machine. They are in the Power Users group. The problem is that when
they log on, they can't see the wireless card ... the familiar D-Link AirPlus
icon located in the system tray has a big X across it and consequently they
can access the net. They can if they are part of Administrator group, but I
don't want them to have full access/control to the system. I figure it has to
do with permissions/privileges. I added all the permissions assigned to
Adminstrator in the local user policies to a group I created and added my
family members. My idea was to narrow down which permission was required and
leave that one in the group. No success. Unless paret of Admin group, they
can't access/see the adapter. Found nowhere where I can set security settings
on the adapter either. Anyone have any ideas/solution? Thx ...

Did you check with D-Link?

Yes ... no answer from them yet.
The reason I suggested it is that although you said they can't see the
wireless adapter, that doesn't sound precisely true. I bet if you're logged
in as a user acct. and type ipconfig /all you'll see it show up - same with
looking in your Network Connections settings. Just sounds like the users
can't access the DLink software... ?

Thx for the tip ... You are right ... the other acct sees the card when
running ipconfig /all. I also checked the program files airplus.exe and
Mrv8000x.dll and it has all permissions except Full Control for the group its
in (Power Users). If I run airplus.exe, I then get the dlink icon show up in
systray with the X across it. It then disappears. I also re-installed the
latest driver from D-Link ... same results. No word from D-Link yet ... has
been over 2 days. Not sure what else to check ... as you say it surely seems
to be related to access permissions of some kind since the card is seen at
the network adapter level as shown by ipconfig.

Could be registry settings, too - can you not contact D-Link by phone?
Might want to check out www.sysinternals.com for FileMon & RegMon - can help
you identify what regkeys & file system stuff the app is trying to access.
Very nice free utilities. You may even be able to remove your users from
PowerUsers when done...

I have same problem with DWL-510. I called DLink and they agree its a 2K
permissions issue but after checking various settings for the dirver itself
and program files, everything looked OK. On my system, I noticed that
advanced permissions allowed Power Users to modify and Users to read &
Execute and Read. In computer management however, the other users were only
part of Power User. This should be enough and should inherit permissions of
lower levels, but I explicitely added the accounts to User group as well ...
no luck however.
