ordinal 36 not in Dynamic Link Library mapi32.dll

I formated my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 98 and
then upgraded it to Window XP, then I reinstalled my Office
97 and now when I try to start Outlook 2000 it gives me the
error message 'The ordinal 36 could not be located in the
Dynamic Link Library mapi32.dll'. I think this may have
been caused by the fact that I should have reinstalled
Office BEFORE I upgraded to XP. So what do I do now?
Where can I get the correct file and where does it belong?
I wonder if there are other problems I haven't run into yet?

I appreciate ANY help I can get!
Thanks,
Kathy

Open Explorer, do a search for mapi32.dll on your system. It should be in
your system32 subfolder of Windows. Rename it mapi32dll.old, then copy the
mapi32.dll on your Office CD to this location and see if that resolves the
issue.

If not, do you have Eudora installed on your system? Prior to attempting to
open Outlook 2000, did you happen to open Outlook Express and did you accept
the option to make it your default e-mail program?

Well that fixed the first problem but like I suspected
there would be another. Now I get "The procedure entry
point WNetCachePassword could not be locatedin the the
dynamic link library MPR.dll. I tried the same trick with
with this file but that didn't work. Stange thing to was
that everytime I would rename it and new one was recreated
and so I finally just overlaid it. Now what? Thanks you
so much for all your help!!!

Kathy, from what I've been able to determine, the cause of this error is the
same. Try uninstalling Outlook, then reintastalling Outlook and see if that
resolves the issue. Sometimes DLLs don't work properly unless you actually
run the intall routine as opposed to simply copying the file to the correct
location.
