Opening file in same window

I want to open files in the same window in Windows Explorer (not internet
explorer) I have ticked the correct boxes in folder options, but it still
does not work ... Windows insists on opening a new window for any folder or
file that is double clicked. I want it to use the same window ...

Does anyone have a fix for this?

Open Windows Explorer
* click Tools > Folder Options > View
* scroll down to 'Hidden Files & Folders, uncheck the box that says 'Launch
folder windows in a separate process', click OK

Undo any fixes you tried (except the checkbox you mention) and type in Start Run
regsvr32 /i shell32.
