Opening.doc e mail attachments

I am running Vista with Office Word 2007. I have sent some word docs home
from work. However whenever I open them they take me direcyty to my windows
media centre. I have tried saving them first then opening them but they still
take me to the media centre. I have tried opening them directly from word but
no joy.

Similar attachments used to open no problem in my old XP with latest service
pack

Any suggestions

What extension do those Word docs have, DOC or DOCX?
By default, Word 2007 uses a new DOCX format which is not compatible
with earlier versions. If that is the issue, there are two ways to fix it.
Microsoft offers a free patch which enable older Word programs to read
DOCX files.
For the time being, it is better to configure Word 2007 to always save
using the older (more compatible) format, which I believe is labeled
"Word 97-2003" in the Save As options.
