opening .dat files

S

steve

I have windows XP home edition and have trouble opening
email attachments with unnamed files. Some files
have .dat extensions. What software do I need to open
these?

Occasionally I've noticed that jpg files, sent from a Windows2000 PC end up
as dat files on an XP PC (though I have no idea why!)

If you trust the person who sent you the file, and you think it's probably
an image file, rename the dat extension to jpg and it should now open in
whichever graphics program you use.
